Christmas Appeal

 

At Christmas, calls to the Solace Women’s Aid helpline increase by 70% and reported domestic abuse incidents rise by 26%. For those women (and their children) fleeing abusive relationships, we discovered that many arrive at safe houses with literally nothing - no clothes, no possessions, not even a toothbrush.

With this awful truth in mind, I wrote, presented and then directed this simple Christmas appeal film – from conception to completion in a week.

It shines a light on #WomenWithNothing. The starkness of the film is in deliberate contrast to the usual visual splendour of Christmas. The appeal encouraged people to give £10 to provide a box of basic items to help women maintain some dignity at this most difficult time. We even persuaded P&G to make a significant donation of products.

#WomenWithNothing played out in cinemas, social media and local press, and provided Solace with much needed funds.
